Shall we please men or God?

Rom 15:3  For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
Gal 1:10  For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
2 Tim 3:12  Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

The Gospel is changing in many ways and places in this generation. Some of this is good; we all need to checkup on ourselves. Just because our church teaches it is not good enough. We must know what the scripture says.

Do we have a living relationship with the Lord or do we just attend a church (sometimes)? Have we been born again and filled with the Spirit of God or are we still walking according to our flesh?

In many Churches of today no longer is the blood of Jesus mentioned. Songs that talk about the blood are not used. More modern songs and music have replaced these. Most of these are designed to make the flesh feel good. No longer are songs designed to bring tears to our eyes and cause us to want to repent of a sin that might be in our life.

When I was living in sin we went to clubs to dance and drink quite often.  Some of the songs we drank and danced to were gospel songs. Now I can't believe I did that! What a change the Lord has made in my life! If folk can sit in church and feel good, with un-repented sin in their life, the songs are not of the Holy Spirit!

Some preachers, of today, will not preach against sin. They will not tell it like it is. These claim to be more spiritual when in fact they are just getting use to the dark and teaching their congregation the same! The Bible still says “follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see God.” Hebrews 12:14. These do not preach on holiness or godly living. Preaching should cause the saints to rejoice and sinners to repent!

We who are in the ministry are not to tickle men's ears or try to please folk. We should have a reverent desire to please God and Him alone. We are bought with a price and we are His vessels to be filled up and poured out again and again to all, as He desires. The gospel preached and taught as it is will cause some to hate us. So be it, it happened to all that have gone before us.  Thank God, others will repent and be saved. The truth has always been loved or hated.

Can we, who minister, realize that when folk hate us and say cutting hurtful things that it is not us alone they hate, it is Jesus Christ in us! These need our prayers not our hate in return. We should say as Jesus did from the cross “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Our mission is to sow the gospel and let God take care of the increase!
