Some, who see us together, think we have only been married a short while because we are usually holding hands and sitting close together. We have grown together instead of apart over the years.
Several years ago we took an automobile trip of over 5,000 miles. From Georgia, where we live, we traveled west through the lower part of the USA. We were driving a new Ford so we were not expecting car trouble.
I did all the driving and Datha did the navigating, reading the map and givin directions. Almost all the states we traveled through were new to us. On this trip I learned how to be together for long periods of time and not have a cross word. I did not try to tend to her business and I also did not tend to my business! She took care of it all! She would have a different version of this. LOL.
As a young man I loved to read western books. My favorite author was Zane Grey. Of course I also enjoyed western movies. Matter of fact I still do.
We visited through New Mexico and on to the Grand Canyon. Saw the Hoover Dam and on to Nevada. I let Datha view Las Vegas from the expressway. That delivered us both from temptation! We visited many of the beautiful sites in southern Utah. In Moab, Utah we visited many sites where western movies were made.
We visited in Denver, Colorado where we saw the US Mint as well as many other sites. Going over the Rocky Mountains into Denver we, in about 5 hours, saw hot sunshine, rain, sleet and snow.
Since that trip we have taken other trips, one up the eastern coast to Nova Scotia and back across to Niagara Falls and through the Amish country. Another we took in all the upper states to the state of Washington and back. Earlier we flew to Hawaii. We have now been in all the states except Alaska. We hope to one day take this trip.
After we returned from our first trip out west I checked out the spare in the new Ford and found it would not fit on the car at all. Someone had changed it out and the lug holes would not fit the car I had! Had we needed it we would have been in real trouble. We felt secure, as we traveled that we had a new spare if we needed it.
Some of us treat our Lord like a spare tire. We only reach for Him when we are in trouble. If things are going to suit us we may go for days and not get alone to pray and talk with Him. When we do this we are saying I only want You when I am in trouble. I believe He is very much interested in helping us with our troubles but should we not want to share the good times with Him as well?
He is not our spare tire; in Him we live and move and have our very being!
