Not Just Another Book!

The Bible is a very unique book.  It is far more than just another literary great.  The Bible is by far the most unique book of all.  Unique means “one and only or different from all others, having no like or equal.”   The Bible my friends is more than a great literary work and I would like to explain why!

The Bible was written over a long span of time taking nearly 1600 years to write.  Authors from many different walks of life contributed to the Bible.  It was written in homes, under the stars, in prisons, on a hillside, in a dungeon, while traveling, while in exile on an island, while working in the fields, and in a palace.  Men and women, old and young contributed to the works of this one and only book.  Joshua was a military leader, Luke was a doctor, Amos was a shepherd, Peter a fisherman, Jeremiah was a Gadite warrior, Solomon was a king, David a shepherd, Matthew was a tax collector, Paul was a persecutor of Christians and a tentmaker.  Many of the writers of the Old and New Testament wrote during sorrow and hardship, some wrote during times of great joy and gladness, yet all wrote under the influence of God!

This book we call the Bible was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic in Africa, Egypt, Asia, and throughout Europe yet it shines of love and harmony.  What was taken away by sin in the Old Testament is restored by the Blood of Jesus in the New Testament.  What a king in the Old Testament wrote confirms what a fisherman in the New Testament wrote.  The Bible for those who truly believe holds no confusion or conflicting arguments.  The Bible is solid truth unmoving and unchangeable.  Let me tell you a story of a captain of a battleship.  It seems this captain was on the bridge of a large naval battleship when he saw a light ahead on a collision course with them.  He signaled to the oncoming ship, "Alter your course ten degrees south." The reply came back, "Alter your course ten degrees north." The captain then signaled, "Alter your course ten degrees south. I am a captain." The reply: "Alter your course 10 degrees north. I am a seaman third-class." The furious captain signaled, "Alter your course ten degrees south. I am a battleship." The reply: "Alter your course ten degrees north. I am a lighthouse." God's Word never changes and is never confused with something else.  It is simply one book full of one promise--eternal life for those having faith to love the Lord!

The Bible talks about the good people and the bad people.  It treats sin as sin and good as good.  The Bible is no respecter of persons and neither is God.  The sins of righteous people are recorded right along with the sins of the wicked.  Starting with the very first sin--Adam and Eve are shown as having been the cause of sin entering this world.  They were God's creation, His chosen ones to fellowship with, yet they sinned and their sin was recorded.  Abraham lied to protect his life.  David committed adultery & murder.  And how about Peter--he denied the Lord three times.  Look also at Paul, persecutor of Christians, turned his life around and became an advocate for Christ.  The life of Solomon, Thomas, Job, and many others show us that God treats everything equally.  The Bible is a book that treats every thing, as it should be.  The Bible tells the story in its entirety without sugar coating it.

The Bible is the most quoted book in the world.  Hundreds of great leaders have used the scriptures in speeches, books, pamphlets, and other publications.  The judicial system of the United States is based upon Biblical principles.  Political leaders are sworn in to office with their hand on the Bible.  American money says, “In God we trust.”  No other book or work on the face of this earth is as unique as the Bible.  It comes from the mind of one person--God!  It was given to nearly 40 individuals during many different times of history and in many different lands yet it rings true with continuity from page to page.  The inspired Words within its pages come directly from the Holy Spirit.  It is a book that will give you life.  It is a book that will give you hope.  It is a book that will only come alive for you if you are willing to receive it in its entirety through--FAITH!  You must understand and believe it to be the inspired written Word of God the Father.  You must not just read the Word of God but you must act on the Word of God in FAITH!  The Word of God is a unique book written for an individual--every individual on the face of the earth!

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

1 Peter 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
