Mat
5:23-24 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there
rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy
gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy
brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
The Lord is as
much interested in our relationship with others as He is our
relationship with Him. In fact they go together, we can not have a
right relationship with the Lord and not have a right relationship with
those around us. We may not be able to have fellowship with some but we
should not be fussing and auguring either.
Mat
6:12-15 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if ye
forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive
you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your
Father forgive your trespasses.
Forgiving others,
who hurts us in any way or has hurt us, is not optional to one who
loves the Lord. It is an absolute necessity. To be forgiven we must
also forgive. This is not a commandment for some and not for others. It
is for all who are God's children.
To be forgiven, we
must forgive. We are forgiven by grace without any merit on our part.
We must forgive in the same way. This is as much for our benefit as it
is for those we forgive. Having an unforgiving spirit is the cause of
much mental and physical problems in our lives. When someone hurts us
and we don't forgive we become part of the problem and God must deal
with both of us.
When we forgive we
release the one who hurt us into the Lord's hand to do, as He will. He
will give them space of time to repent and if they don't, vengeance
belongs to God. He will not put up with anyone hurting one of His own!
When we forgive it doesn't mean we have pardoned them. We are just
releasing them to the Lord. We are granting mercy as we have been
granted mercy.
How can we know if
we have truly forgiven someone who has hurt us? We are to pray for
those who despitefully use us and bless those who curse us. Pray and
ask the Lord to forgive them. The first time we pray it may just be in
obedience to the Word of God and not be from our hearts. Just keep
praying until one time you will realize you do mean it, the Holy Spirit
will help.
How can we know we
have truly forgiven? When we can think about it without it
hurting us. Any sore, when it is healed will stop hurting. Forgive and
let the Lord heal us of all hurts.
The goal of every
Christian should be to get all sin out of their life, but we all need
forgiveness at times. If we don't forgive others we can not be forgiven
ourselves. We can not walk with the Lord and not forgive those who
trespass against us. Meditate on it!
Our Father in
heaven, turn the search light of Your Spirit on our hearts and show us
if we are holding on to something that we should have turned loose of
before. Help us, from our hearts, to forgive those who hurt us as we
ourselves need to be forgiven. We ask, believe we receive and give
thanks in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
