“Store up some things for a rainy day,” said Grandma.

“Like what Grandma?” I asked.

“Oh, things like magazines, books, canned goods, food items that won't easily spoil. Matches, a couple pails of lard, things like that.”

“How come?”

“Oh, you never know when rough times come, so having all them things is important, but most important of all, is to have your Bible and the treasures of God stored up.”

“How do you store up treasures of God, Grandma?”

“Oh that's easy. You do that by reading the Bible and doing what it tells you. The Bible tells us to do good things for our neighbors and people we don't even know. You give things away to those that don't have and you do it with a smile on your face. You do favors for people without them knowing it was you that did it. According to the Gospel of Matthew it's storing up treasures in Heaven.”

“Can you read it to me?”

“I sure can. It's from the Gospel of Matthew chapter 6 verses 19 to 21 it says, Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

As we drift throughout life let us endeavor to lay up treasures in heaven not on earth. You can start with a simple smile and hello! Sometimes we forget the simple or little things  handshake, smile, open the door for someone, hi how are you? (And mean it, take the time to listen if they respond), thank you, you are welcome  simple things/little things, but oh so important! Let us not be so quick to turn away thinking someone else will help. Let us not be so quick to think, “Oh well, someone else will pray for them.” “Someone else will give.” “I don't have the time.”

Take a look at your treasures here on earth -- are they ruling your life or is God ruling your life?
