Building on a solid foundation
Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Ask most “what is the solid foundation we are to build on” And usually the answer is “Jesus Christ”. This is true but only if properly explained and understood.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jesus is the word of God made flesh. Many are taking one verse and trying to make it stand alone, while ignoring other plain scripture on the same subject. This is very dangerous and leads to false doctrines and teaching.
Jesus, The Word made flesh, is the foundation we are to build on. What does it mean when we say we are building on the solid rock? We sing the song “On the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand”. What are we saying? What does the Word say about it?
Mat 7:21 Not every
one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:24-27 Therefore
whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him
unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain
descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that
heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto
a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended,
and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and
it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Every promise in scripture, to us, is dependent on us doing something to receive it. Obedience to the Word of God is of utmost importance to build on the solid rock foundation. It's not enough to hear the word of God and claim the promises without doing what it takes to receive the promise.
Notice why one house stood and the other fell. One heard and put the Word into action by becoming a doer the other just heard, maybe rejoiced, but did not become a doer.
Prov 24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
It's not a matter if the storm comes, just when. Storms come to all. The obedient and the disobedient. If we fall during the storm it's not God's fault. He has already told us how to stand.
When the roof on the house has a leak, during the storm is not the time to fix it. Repair the leak while the sun is shining and during the storm you can stay dry!
You might ask, “ What does that mean in the Spiritual realm”? During the good time when everything is going well, study the Word, listen to good teaching and preaching. Keep your prayer life up to date. Become a doer of what you learn. Walk in truth all the time. When you see something, in The Word that is not a reality in your life. Maybe a sin, repent and ask for and receive forgiveness. It could be something you are not doing that you know you should be doing. Start doing it now!
If, we will do this, when the storm hits you can know that you will stand. We have God's Word on it! You will emerge from the storm rejoicing in victory. Then we will be able to help someone who is struggling in a storm of life.
