Most of us when going through a trying time in our lives will draw closer to the Lord. We cry out in our distress and ask Him to intervene for our good. This is as it should be; we need Him in our storms and trials. Some teach that Christians should not have these things happen to them. All the examples, in the scripture, had them and so will we. The question is; what will we do in the midst of these times? Will we draw closer to the Lord or turn away.

I have seen some that lost a loved one and turned away from the Lord blaming Him for letting it happen. Others, I have observed, have turned wholly to the Lord and lived to see God work it for their good. He does all things well. We must learn to trust and obey. Some find God real, for the first time, in their lives during these times.

As Christians should we not draw close to the Lord? Recognizing that not only do we need Him when the trials and storms come to us but also when things are going good. I find that I can get into more trouble when everything is going great than when a storm is on. During a storm I know I need the Lord. When everything is great I tend to think I can handle this and depend less on the Lord. Are we living in a manner that the only way the Lord can get us to come wholly to Him is when He allows us to have trouble? We should strive to be consistent in our walk and not be up and down according to what we are going through.

The truth is we need the Lord all the time, in every thing. He is our life in the good and bad times. The God on the mountain is still God in the valley. He is the one who is leading us wherever we are. The Lord is our Shepherd we shall not lack for anything. Trust and acknowledge Him in all things. Most all growth takes place in the valley. Very little growth takes place on the mountain. The still water is in the valley. If we fall on the mountain it will be much more dangerous than a fall in the valley where it is soft and easy to get up.

I don't know about you, but I don't like to be around those who are always telling me their problems. They never share their good times with me. As soon as they get through telling me they can't wait to tell someone else. It seems if they didn't have a problem they wouldn't have anything to talk about! Don't misunderstand me there are times when we all need special help from God and those around us.

I wonder do we do our Lord much the same way? Is He pleased with us when all we do, when we come to Him, is tell Him all the problems we have? Should we not rejoice before Him and recognize we are blessed when it's going our way and when it's not? I believe He desires to be with us on the mountain and in the valley as well as all in between. Is He our Shepherd or not?

Since He is the Vine and we are the branches, we need Him all the time. The branch can't leave the Vine in the good or bad times and live. All the fruit of the Vine is on the branches. I wonder, what do others think when they see and hear us? What kind of fruit are we bearing? Does it glorify the Lord or cause Him shame? Think about it!

Lord God, forgive us when we gripe and complain about what is going on in our life. You are our Shepherd and You do all things well. Give us grace to abide in You and bring forth the fruit that shows we are in You. We ask in Jesus name and give thanks. Amen
