How Do You Know?
1 John 2:3-6
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He
that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar,
and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily
is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
What is the measure you use to count
yourself in Christ and that you know Him? Do you count yourself in
Christ because you made a profession of faith and joined a church?
Maybe it is church attendance. Or the group or denomination you belong
to?
The only scriptural measure by which
we can know whether we know the Lord or not is: “Are you keeping His
commandments?” It plainly tells us if we are not being a doer of His
Word and confessing we know Him, we are liars and the truth is not in
us! Revelations 21:8 tells us that all liars will be in the lake of
fire.
This is far too important for us to
believe anything except the Word of God concerning this. Those who have
made a profession of faith and are told they are eternally saved no
matter what else they do, are not being told the whole truth. The
attributes of one who knows the Lord are; they are finding out what
God's Word says and becoming a doer of it. They are keeping His
commandments. This is the biblical evidence that we know Him.
As we keep His commandments, the love
of God is being perfected in us. By this we know that we are in Him. If
this is not happening in us, we are not in Him! By this measure you can
know if You are in Him or not.
Are you saying you are abiding in
Him? If so, are you beginning to walk as He walked? How did He walk? He
did no sin, neither was there any guile in His mouth. That can not be
in our life if we are not abiding in Him. He is the Vine; we are but a
branch in the Vine. A branch must abide to live. (See John chapter 15)
Are you abiding and allowing His life to be yours?
Beloved, if this shows you are not
abiding in Him, may I urge you to repent and start abiding? You may not
be keeping His commandments but you can start this day. You may still
have sin in your life. Ask Him to cleanse you of all sin and He will.
Time is running out; don't put it off - do it now.
Lord God, help us to do a spiritual
check up and see if we are truly abiding in You. Turn Your search light
on us and show us what we must do to become doers of Truth. We ask and
believe we receive in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
